Potential inefficiencies in the retail supply chain
Whilst each retailer may use slightly differing processes for managing their stock through the supply chain, we at Kinetica have identified a number of inefficiencies in the these processes which are generic to all retailers. These inefficiencies can be removed very easily, therefore increasing the accuracy of stock going to stores and therefore enhancing sales and reducing shrinkage. For example, the process of checking off deliveries from suppliers within the distribution network is time consuming and labour intensive, and on the whole supplier delivery accuracy is very good. Kinetica can help you reduce the cost of this process significantly whilst maintaining very high levels of delivery accuracy. This service can also reduce the amount of unnecessary administrative time matching invoices and logistics costs incurred by the vendors themselves. Complex processes and systems are adopted by retailers for receiving stock which again can be simplified. We can also ensure that the accuracy of the stock picked in depot for stores is maintained at an appropriate standard, which in turn means that the stock received at store is accurate. This reduces and can even negate the need for these deliveries to be checked when they are received in store. One of the biggest drivers of poor availability or “off sale” lines is inaccurate deliveries form depot which corrupt the store stock file. Our Depot Pick Accuracy audits can support improvements in this area whilst driving better behaviour from distribution teams.
A New Approach
We can offer a service, which could be put in place, so a supplier just drops their delivery at the retailer’s depot, turns and goes?? The depot could then unload the vehicle and take the stock straight to the picking areas.
We can also offer a service whichcould be put in place to validate and improve the accuracy of the stock picked within depot and that the right delivery is loaded onto the right vehicle every time?
All of the above can be achieved by employing the services of an expert third party stock auditing company.
There are three key services that can be provided to answer these questions;
- Vendor Accuracy Checks (VAC)
- Store Product Accuracy Checking (Product Accuracy)
- Vehicle Load Checks (Store delivery accuracy)
